Not since "The Revelation of Jesus Christ" given to John on the Isle of Patmos some 1900 years ago has there been revealed a more awe-inspiring vision concerning the end of our present age than the predictive material presented by David Wilkerson in THE VISION AND BEYOND (PROPHECIES FULFILLED AND STILL TO COME) (Lindale, Texas: World Challenge Publications, 2003). Some will remember the first edition of this work, entitled, THE VISION: A TERRIFYING PROPHECY OF DOOMSDAY THAT IS HAPPENING NOW! (New York: Pyramid Books, 1974) which had as its contents: an Introduction, eight chapters, and two appendices. The original text has not been revised in this new edition, but has been reproduced verbatim with two new chapters (7 and 8 [21 pp.]) being added to the original material. This new edition is also dimensionally larger than the first "mass-market paperback" measuring 5" x 8" and is printed on acid free paper with an updated title and cover design. These are helpful improvements over the 1974 paperback.Readers of the first edition will remember the "five tragic calamities coming upon the earth." Taken chapter-by-chapter they continue to be: (1) "Economic Confusion" with seventy-three related predictions; (2) "Drastic Weather Changes and Earthquakes" with forty-four predictions; (3) "A Flood of Filth" (an allusion to moral collapse) containing ninety-two predictions; (4) "The Number One Youth Problem of the Future" with thirty-six predictions; and (5) "Persecution Madness" (against 'born-again' Christians and 'Spirit-baptized' Roman Catholics) with ninety-one predictions. The "prediction counts" are my own and are taken informally from the text. These counts may vary from reader-to-reader, but are helpful emphasis indicators. As mentioned, this new second edition includes two new chapters, respectively: "Excerpts from David Wilkerson's Prophetic Writings" and "The Towers Have Fallen, but We Missed the Message." These two chapters offer no additional revelation relative to the original five-part vision from April 1973, but they do include details from a "prophetic message" delivered to the congregation at Times Square Church on 7 September 1992 concerning "thirty days of chastisement that will fall on New York City such as the world has never seen" (p. 118) with many devasting details. Also included are the author's reflections on the destruction of tne "Twin Towers." Observations concerning God's judgments upon Israel and Judah in the eighth and sixth centuries B.C. are again cited on various occasions throughout the book as they were in the first edition. These biblical references are not included in my informal chapter-by-chapter prediction counts as shown above.Given this newly-titled and updated second edition of a work first published twenty-nine years earlier, I would have expected more reflection and feedback from the seer-author concerning which of his predictions he believes to have been "fulfilled" as the new title suggests. Accusations from nay-saying critics charging the seer with "false" or "mis-predictions" may have been silenced or at least blunted had a systematic analysis or "checklist" been established with notes indicating fulfillment or lack of it during the thirty-year interim since the vision was first given. Some of the predictions were specified for the first decade (1973-1983)--were they fulfilled in Wilkerson's view? How many of the other 346 predictions have been fulfilled during this thirty-year interim? Does Wilkerson still believe everything will be fulfilled during his lifetime, as he states in the first edition? This sort of itemized accounting might have strengthened the seer's credibility in the face of his nay-saying opponents. A Scripture index added to the back matter would have also further enhanced the book's value as a helpful reference this second time around.By my own cursory reckoning, it seems that less than 25% of the predictions cited in THE VISION AND BEYOND have been fulfilled to date (3/28/07) with 75% still remaining in the future. Indications are strong, however,--in all five categories--that many if not all of the predictions will be realized "in this generation" as Wilkerson predicts. Saint Paul's analogy of a pregnant woman coming to full term is an important simile to keep in mind when trying to understand the movement of time relative to the end of the age--allowing as it does, for a long, almost imperceptible growth (or degradation in the case of the end of the age) ultimately climaxing with numerous, increasingly strong and painful contractions before the actual birth takes place (cf., 1 Thessalonians 5:3).Because I believe this "vision" to be a genuine revelation from God for the sake of believers and unbelievers alike, I highly recommend it be read by everyone concerned about "the signs of our times" and how they relate to God's judgments upon the United States of America and the world-at-large; the physical return of Jesus Christ to establish his kingdom on earth; and the end of this present age. Instructions have also been provided by the seer-author to assist, both, "the prepared" and "the unprepared" on how to best conduct their lives in the face of the difficult times ahead. As the Hebrew prophet, Habakkuk, was assured by God concerning the coming destructive judgment upon the nation of Judah by the invading Babylonians, so Wilkerson invokes the ancient exhortation to patience as part of his epigraph: " . . . . For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry" (Habakkuk 2:3).(I have subtracted one star for not making the most of this republication opportunity.)Excellent, easy to read and considering the original was written in the 1970's it is as if you are reading today's headlines. David Wilkerson is definitely a profit from God and America is in Big Trouble. We are in the "birth pangs" of the "last days" as the Bible says and as David Wilkerson says and it is good to get some clear insight that is even more culturally relevant and timely now than when the book was written. Anyone living in the current generation, especially the Milennials should read this and take heed. Call upon the name of the Lord, confess your sins, thank Jesus of Nazareth for taking the sins of the world(past, present and future) upon himself and being the substitutionary sacrifice for your personal sins so you don't have to suffer the penalty yourself with God's Wrath which is closer now than ever before. Thank God for this. I have written on nearly every page the events that have been fulfilled as he has described in his vision. It is truly amazing. Share with your Pastor, Small Group, Bible Study, Prayer Partners, Family and Friends. They don't teach Biblical truth or prophecy like this anymore in most churches. If nothing else this will/should prompt an interest to dig deeper into what the Bible says about what David Wilkerson says. Always check it out against Biblical Scripture so you are not deceived.I love this book! You can also listen to the audio version of this book online, free of charge. But I wanted a copy of this hard to find book. The author, David Wilkerson, is with the Lord now. He was a visionary and evangelist who preached hard messages that would stir the hearts and minds of hardened saints and sinners, compelling people to come to salvation through Jesus Christ, and escape the wrath of God and the fires of hell. This book is based on a vision that he had, many things of which have taken place, and some are looming on our horizon in America. A very serious warning of God's judgment on a nation gone crazy, and yet serious followers of Jesus who will see the glory of God in spite many difficulties and some suffering for their faith. God is faithful to those who love Him and promises to rescue us from this dark age.Powerful prophecy book of Pastor David Wilkersons Vision of 1973 and subsequent comments. Some of the imminent developments he said God pointed out to him were drastic weather changes, epidemic outbreaks, famines, depletion of relief funds, uncontrolled credit debt, bankrupcies of major corporations, trouble for US currency, downfall of auto industry, US being blamed for world economic problems, huge departure from morality and ethics...be prepared, he does not mince words on the falling away from conservative christianity, the sin of homosexuality, or other sins mentioned in the Bible. This book also available on the website of his church, worldchallenge.org (used to be 6.00 through church website, may still be). If you believe in what he saw and his take on spiritual matters, you can also access more of his teachings and devotionals on the Times Square church website, or just do a search for David Wilkerson. He always claimed he was not a Prophet, but surely moved in the prophetical nonetheless. This man was truly a prophet of God! He has ministered to me for years through his newsletter sermon series. Every letter right what on target for the time in my life. I was devastated when the Lord took him home. His church keeps his letters coming and they still minister to me. I was seeking God and fasting when I received this book in the mail. God used it to answer what I was fasting about. The book is very prophetic...he still ministers from the "grave" so to speak. Finally, his words are being heard and people are listening after they shunned him for the prophecies God gave him. Rarely does God give a prophet his message when it is happening; it is always before and the people can't even imagine that it would happen....exactly how the prophets of old were treated.fantastic book, this truly was a real man of God. All he spoke of is happening today,On time & in perfect condition.I will be using again .ThanksThis is a great book. Everyone should have the chance to read it. I first read this book in 1973 and never forgot what I had read. Three years ago I realised that what I had read back in 1973 was happening now and I needed to read The Vision again. Read The Vision now and be prepared for what is going to happen.Excellent book. Worth to read the book. Most of the predictions happened and some happening now. I definitely recommend this book.Good read
